A.P.R. STANDARDS
These standards describe the characteristics of the American Pit Bull Terrier (as per U.K.C. & ADBA standards).  The
American Pit Registry (A.P.R.) will use these standards by applying them to the pitbull's photos to determine the pit bull's
eligibility to enter the registry.
Head:
The head should be medium length and bricklike in shape.  The skill is flat and widest at the ears, with prominent             
 cheeks free from wrinkles.

Muzzle:
The muzzle is square, wide and deep.  Well-pronounced jaws should display strength.  The upper teeth should meet        
 tightly over the lower teeth, outside on front.

Ears:
The ears are cropped or uncropped (not important) and should be set high on the head, free from wrinkles.

Nose:
The nose should have wide open nostrils.  Any color is acceptable.

Neck:
Muscular and slightly arched, the neck should taper from shoulder to head, free from looseness of skin.

Shoulders:
The shoulders should be strong and muscular, with wide sloping shoulder blades.

Back:
Short and strong, the back should slightly slope from the withers to the rump.  It should be slightly arched at the               
 loins which should be slightly tucked.

Chest:
The chest should be deep, but not too broad, with wide sprung ribs.

Ribs:
Close.  Well sprung, with deep back ribs.

Tail:
Short in comparison to size, the tail should be set low and tapering to a fine point.  It should not be carried over the          
 back.  A bobbed tail is not acceptable.

Legs:
The legs should be large and round boned, with straight, upright pasterns, reasonably strong. The feet should be of        
 medium size.  The gait should be light and springy, with no rolling or pacing.

Thigh:
The thigh should be long with muscles developed and hocks down straight.

Coat:
The coat should be glossy, and short and stiff to the touch.

Color:
Any color or markings are permissible.

Weight:
The weight is not important.  The preferred weight for females is from 30 to 50 pounds (13.6-22.7 kg); for males               
 from 35 to 60 pounds (15.9-27.2 kg).
